Playwriting workshops
mentor: Dušan Jovanović
A good decade has passed since the very first playwriting workshops at the Week of Slovenian Drama, organised in 2004 in cooperation with the Royal Court Theatre from London, one of the first theatres that systematically encouraged fresh dramatic creativity. In the eleven years since, more than two hundred participants have taken them and the most prestigious theatre artists from Slovenia and abroad have mentored them.
This year’s workshop will be led by Dušan Jovanović, theatre artist/director, author/playwright, essayist and educator with a vast theatre opus. Among his oft-performed plays are numerous Grum Award winners (The Karamazovs; The Wall, The Lake; Antigone, The Exhibitionist). Many of his performances have marked the period in which they were created; he was among the founders of the Pupilija Ferkeverk Theatre and Glej Experimental Theatre, but probably left the strongest mark on
the Mladinsko Theatre and SNG Drama Ljubljana. He taught theatre directing at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television of the University of Ljubljana (AGRFT UL) and mentored a number of successful directors of younger generations.
