About the performance

PREMIÈRE 19 DECEMBER 2014
THE PERFORMANCE IS 1 HOUR AND 30 MINUTES LONG AND HAS NO INTERVAL.

Beit Zvi is the oldest independent theatre school in Israel. It was founded 50 years ago and is financed by the Israeli Ministry of Culture and the local community. Not only do its graduates work in many professional Israeli theatres, the school’s student productionsare also remarkable. Vladimir is the second play by Matjaž Zupančič performed by the BeitZvi School. This time as well, the play was translated and directed by Yonathan Esterkin, a perspective young director, himself a Beit Zvi student.
Three students – the young couple Aleš and Maša and their friend Miki, roommates in a rented flat, get another roommate because they’re short on money, the much older Vladimir. Differences soon become obvious, and together with revealing Vladimir’s past they lead to an inevitable conflict. The play reveals the depths of the gap between generationsin the contemporary world; a small flat in which the heroes are caught becomes the set for their global confrontation.
Matjaž Zupančič won his first Grum Award for this play in 1998, and like his other plays, it has found way onto international stages several times. The Beit Zvi production is the first staging of the play in Israel.
