About the performance
PREMIÈRE 8 JANUARY 2014
THE PERFORMANCE IS ONE HOUR LONG AND HAS NO INTERVAL.
"Why be a man when it 's hard
to be one? Become a street lamp
that quietly disperses
its glow on a man."
Srečko Kosovel is one of the brighter shooting stars on the starry sky of Slovenian poetry. In its brief flash, his poetry lit many a dark corner of the human existence, and in its core is that little human that is all that
is left of us. The 110th anniversary of his birth thus prompted the creation of the performance-concert of his poetry.
In the last century, when Slovenian people took to the streets, they often went with Kosovel’s verses in their hearts. Kosovel’s words are at the same time so powerful and so universal that they were appropriated by political movements andascribed them meaning that emphasised their revolutionary charge. The creators of this performance, though, wanted quite the opposite; they wanted to include the entire spectrum thatKosovel’s light illuminates. Just like his poetry, the theatre performance
also sheds light into many corners of human existence and shows different faces of a man. In this sense, the mission of the actors is the same as the poet’s, and more so with the interpretation of the poetry. In this performance the
poetic word and theatre blend together with music into one story. A story about a man, about life.
"From their safe haven they address all those sitting ‘in theatres, bars, cafes and other entertainment venues’, but in the first place they’re sending light from ‘their new world’ the world of refuge and thus
draft a human they believe in, or the human that humans have the potential to be."
