About the performance
PREMIÈRE 17 MAY 2014
THE PERFORMANCE IS 75 MINUTES LONG AND HAS NO INTERVAL.
"We are all hysterical. You are hysterical, I am hysterical. We are hysterical.
We are hysterical, we are hysterical."
In this mocumentarist drama – which through the intertwining of historic facts sheds new light on reality – the scientific, rational view of the world and the psychotic state face each other. The artists were inspired by the novel The Book of Blanche and Marie by the Swedish author and playwright Per Olov Enquist, a fictional account about a friendship between two real historic personalities. In an encounter between the first lady of the lab, double Nobel prize winner Marie Curie and the
famous hysteria patient Blanche Wittman, that in fact never took place, on the stage, both visions are shown, in one actress, that they are surprisingly close.
The performance was created as the first production of the new programme platform ofSNG Drama Ljubljana, with the poignant name Laboratory, which is becoming a space for new theatre and acting expressiveness.
"She took the burden of the play onto herself, and with a paradoxical lightness, too, of course only seemingly, yet fluid and lucid, affected and playful, communicative and with a point. The birth of an actress from the spirit of hysteria, we might say."
